UK Soccer Camp Starts Next Week

 
The Family YMCA is hosting the UK Soccer Camp program next week July 30 – Aug 3 at North Mesa Field for youth ages 4-16.
 
The cost for half days (9 a.m. to noon) is $100 and a $160 for full days (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.). The full day program is for youth ages 8-16 only.
 
This is a great program for soccer players of all experience levels with a focus on individual skills development and teamwork. Scholarships are available through funding from United Way.

Y Earth Service Corps Fundraises for Creativity for Peace

The Los Alamos Y Earth Service Corps has had an exciting past month. They have continued to work on maintaining and improving the trails around Los Alamos, and have begun working on The Satch Cowan Trail, a trail honoring a local woman who has helped make the Los Alamos YES Corps program possible. 

Additionally, the YES Corps has volunteered at the Espanola Humane Society, has deconstructed unsafe fencing for the Wildlife Center, and has served as mentors for the Y’s iCARE program participants for an activity studying a forest floor.

OBITUARY: John W. Taylor 1931 – July 21, 2012

JOHN W. TAYLOR, 81, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita K. Taylor; parents, Waldon and Ida Taylor; sister-in-law, Martha Taylor.
 
John was employed at Los Alamos National Laboratory for 31 years. He was an active member of Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church.
 
He was a well known and respected member of the community. He was a laboratory fellow and was a member of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board.
 
He contributed greatly to NASA Missions, namely the Cassini Hygens. His passion was history,

Following the completion of an extensive RFP process, which vetted five emergency physician group providers, and with input from members of the Los Alamos Medical Center medical staff, LAMC  announced today that they will be partnering with the EmCare Emergency Physicians Group to provide emergency medical care for patients beginning Thursday, Aug. 16.

Kristy Ortega Tapped to Lead Local United Way

Her new role as executive director of United Way feels like coming home for Kristy Ortega. The 30-year-old began working in the heart of the community at 18.

She spent seven years with the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation where she interacted with local businesses, nonprofits and Los Alamos County personnel.

In 2007, Ortega joined the Hilltop House Hotel as marketing and sales director where she coordinated public events.
