Los Alamos Sportsmen’s Club will host the third annual New Mexico State Youth Shotgun Competition beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 28.
 
Local organizer Mike O’Neill said that the club also hosted the competition last year in conjunction with New Mexico Game and Fish Department.
 
Los Alamos Young Guns scored high in both trap and skeet. In Junior Trap, Shelby Chavez placed second, Josh Smith placed fourth, and MaryBeth Farish and David Smith placed fifth.
In Senior Trap, Forrest Pinchbeck and Gus L’Esperance tied for fifth place. In Junior Skeet, JoAnna O’Neill placed first, MaryBeth Farish placed second, and Sam Wolfe placed third.
In Senior Skeet, John Gordon placed third.
Some 57 young people competed last year but Los Alamos also had the only all girls team. This year, competitors will also shoot trap, skeet, and bunker trap.
Admission to the event is free and a food vendor will sell breakfast burritos, burgers, sandwiches and more.
