MainStreet Hosts ‘Living Los Alamos’ Kiosks Art Contest

MAINSTREET News:

Los Alamos MainStreet announces a call for original photographs or artwork that represent “Living Los Alamos”.

Winning art will be displayed in the four directional kiosks along Central Avenue. The only qualification is that the art should be representative of living in Los Alamos or the surrounding area.

To be considered, email artwork to ryn@losalamos.org. Deadline to submit artwork is Feb. 15. The MainStreet Futures Committee will judge entries and selected artists will be notified by email. For details visit losalamosmainstreet.com/contest.

LANL Foundation Offers Monthly Grants That Strengthen Teaching And Learning

LANL Foundation News:

The LANL Foundation offers Educational Outreach Small Grants to school districts and nonprofits with programs that strengthen teaching and learning.

Grants of up to $1,500 are available monthly to support public schools and nonprofits working in education in Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe and Taos counties.

Previously, grants were limited to programs related to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). The grants are now available to more nonprofit programs focused on teaching and learning.

Los Alamos Middle School student Talia Ben-Naim presents checks for $840 each to Self Help, Inc Director Ellen Morris Bond and YMCA Youth and Family Director Jeremy Smith from her very successful Rock on Climbathon. Civil Air Patrol cadets from the Los Alamos Composite Squadron are benefitting from a $1,500 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) grant from the LANL Foundation.

The grant was used to purchase equipment that supports CAP cadets in their Aeronautical Education and Robotics activities.
