Ashley Pond Park Improvements Take Shape
The contractor for the Ashley Pond Park Improvements Projects has completed the concrete work next to the pond, filled the pond to the designated water level and has all systems in place and functional. By Oct. 18, the ADA sidewalk leading to the pond and landscaping with irrigation systems also should be completed. Ex-Enron Executive Indicted on Bankruptcy Charges

HOUSTON—A federal grand jury has returned a 24-count indictment against Jeffrey Adam Shankman with bankruptcy fraud and concealment of assets, announced United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson.
The indictment was returned today. Shankman is expected to turn himself in to federal authorities and make an initial appearance before a U.S. magistrate judge in the near future.
According to the indictment, Shankman engaged in a scheme to conceal assets to defraud creditors and the trustee who was appointed to collect and dispose of all Shankman’s assets in his bankruptcy estate.

UNM-Los Alamos Class Teaches Stress Management Techniques

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Community Education program will offer a four-week class in stress management. The class, taught by UNM-LA Professor Victoria Erhart, focuses on physical, mental and emotional stress and the techniques that can be used to mitigate and lower each of these.

Former LANL Director Harold Agnew Has Died

Harold M. Agnew, died Sept. 29 2013 at his home in Solana Beach, Calif.
Agnew was present at Fermi’s first neutron chain reaction Dec. 2, 1942, director of the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory for 10 years and for 10 years president of General Atomics.
He had been afflicted with chronic lymphocytic leukemia since spring.
Agnew was born in Denver, Colo. After receiving his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Denver in 1942, he joined Enrico Fermi’s research group at the University of Chicago.
