For those in the community who hate throwing away cottage cheese and other plastic tubs and chip bags, the Co-op has good news.

Here’s a brief summary of the expanded world of recycling; further details are available on a slip of paper at the Co-op – just ask at the register.

Los Alamos Nukes Rugby (high school boys) are hosting Volcano Vista from Albuquerque 11 a.m. today (Saturday, April 20) at Sullivan Field.
 
Los Alamos Rookie Rugby is playing 9-11 a.m. on the next field. This is touch rugby for 5-13 year olds.
 
U-15 boys will play Sevens (a high paced quick version of rugby that has seven people on a side and seven minute halves) at 11 a.m. at Sullivan field. 
 
For anyone is interested in the game of rugby, this is a great opportunity to watch the action live.

LA Piecemakers Quilt Trunk Show April 23

The Art Study Group of the LA Piecemakers will be doing a trunk show of quilts the members have made at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 at the United Church. 

The group of about 10 quilters has been together for a number of years.

After taking a class together, they decided to form a group to continue to learn about art quilts. 

They meet on the second Sunday of each month at the White Rock library. They have worked together on a group art quilt challenge-Hot Flash that was shown at the Knoxville AQS show.

White Rock Community Garden Gets Underway

Amid the howling winds that constitute a sign of spring in Los Alamos, a White Rock Community Garden is making progress toward reality.

The original site for the garden has been overtaken by the new public library that will be built in the next few years. But the garden has a new location – on N.M. 4 between Time Out Pizza and the arroyo.  It’s right across from the new Visitors’ Center parking lot, a much better site.

There were 10 dedicated, hard core Atomic City Road Runners at the snowy, cold Sewer Plant Road run Tuesday afternoon. 
 
The best predictor of the night was Ted Romero with a delta of 42 seconds. Ted also was the fastest runner on the 3-mile course with a time of 20:58. 
 
The fastest runner and best predictor on the 1-mile course was Linda Vance with a time of 9 minutes and 53 seconds, and an adjusted delta of 60 seconds off her predicted time.

Cheri Chance of Los Alamos, New Mexico, passed on into the energy of the universe and heaven Monday, April 1, 2013.

Cheri was the matriarch, anchor, and rock for her family and friends that extend across this country. Cheri was the daughter of Carolyn Chance and Alvin Chance (deceased.)
