Los Alamos Site Office Takes Fire Prevention Measures

As a result of the region’s high fire potential, the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Site Office (LASO) has imposed fire prevention restrictions on the government-leased Sportsmen’s Club property in Los Alamos to match those for the Forest Service, Park Service, and the Los Alamos National Laboratory property.

“We are very concerned about the severe drought and weather conditions that are affecting the southwest,” LASO Manager Kevin Smith said. “We just can’t afford to take a chance right now on causing a fire that could rapidly spread to other areas.”

TK Thompson Explores ‘The Faces of Jazz’

TK Thompson has been interested in both jazz music and photography since his early teens.

His current exhibit of black and white photographs of jazz musicians plying their trade is titled “Faces of Jazz.”

The exhibit is on display in the Portal Gallery of The Art Center at Fuller Lodge.

Longmire Television Series Filming This Week in Los Alamos and at the Ski Hill

This week, Los Alamos residents will see those familiar yellow and black signs guiding film talent and production crews through town to base camps and film sites within the County.

These signs will post the letters “LM”—for Longmire, The hour-long drama series from Warner Horizon Television, which began filming in March of this year in Santa Fe, Las Vegas and the surrounding areas.

Vehicle Rollover Shuts Down East Road

A white van on Central Avenue attempted to enter East Road at about 2:15 p.m. today when it struck a Toyota 4 Runner, causing it to flip over and land on its side on East Road. Power Outage Affects About 300 Local Customers

Power was interrupted to North Mesa beginning at 9:18 a.m., Tuesday according to the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities.

An electric line operations crew caused a brief power outage to North Mesa while preparing to perform a 700-foot, 3-phase cable pull near the base of Pueblo Canyon.

About 300 customers were affected. Power outage status and notifications were provided to customers by 311 Customer Care Center staff and to online customers and cell phones via DPU’s Facebook and Twitter.

Power was restored to the area within about 20 minutes.
