SANTA FE — The New Mexico Tourism Department and New Mexico Magazine have selected Edward Graves to assume the role of CEO/Publisher for New Mexico Magazine. Edward officially joined New Mexico Magazine Jan. 6.

Centers For Disease Control And States Update Number Of Hospitalized E-Cigarette Or Vaping Cases And Deaths

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has announced that as of Dec. 27, 2019 the number of hospitalized cases or deaths from e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury (EVALI) was 2,561 nationwide.

More specifically, there have been 55 deaths confirmed in 27 state and the District of Columbia.

Deforestation is changing the way monkeys communicate in their natural habitat, according to a new study.

This study, led by an anthropologist at the University of Waterloo, offers the first evidence in animal communication scholarship of differences in vocal behaviors in response to different types of forest edge areas.

Gov. Lujan Grisham recently released her budget to be considered by the Legislature in the upcoming 30 day session. As expected, there is a lot of new spending thanks to the continued growth of oil and gas production in the Permian Basin.

Ronald Eugene Randolph, was born on February 12, 1949. He passed away at home on January 5, 2020 in Chandler, AZ.
 
He was born in Elkhart, KS to Eugene “Randy” and Georgina Randolph. They moved to Los Alamos when he was six years old. He graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1967. He was especially proud of his contribution to the 1966 Toppers Football State Championship.
 
He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colo.

New Mexico Supreme Court Forms Committee To Consider Changes In Pretrial Detention Rules

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Supreme Court has ordered the establishment of a 15-member committee to consider possible changes in procedures for the pretrial detention of criminal defendants.

 

“The work of the committee can help strengthen the reforms approved by voters in the 2016 constitutional amendment and provide additional guidance to judges making the difficult decisions about pretrial detention and release,” Chief Justice Judith K. Nakamura said in a statement.
