Letter To The Editor: Regarding ‘Landlord Lobby Group’

The town hall regarding small business and George Chandler’s letter (link) to the editor have been very eye-opening. The town hall was a disaster.

Landlords were given 2+ hours of the 3 hour time frame. They utilized that not to talk about how to catalyze small business growth, but to lobby against the proposed downtown overlay.

The agenda should not have been allowed to be de-railed into a lobbying effort, and the fact that the small business owners got the scraps when it came to time is appalling and should be very embarrassing to the County Council.

Vigil Named New Coordinator Of White Rock Senior Center

Gabriel Vigil was the surprise guest at the White Rock Senior Center today. Vigil was recently named LARSO’s first Employee of the Quarter after Board Treasurer John Baillie recommended him. Herman Richard Maltrud, long-time Los Alamos resident, died on Friday, July 23, 2021. He passed away surrounded by loving family while in hospice care in Los Alamos shortly after suffering a stroke. 

Affectionately known as “Herm”, and more commonly known as Richard or Dick, he grew up in small-town Ada, Minnesota. The eldest of four children, Herm attended St. Olaf College, then obtained a Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Washington.

New Mexico COVID-19 Update Aug. 7-9 : 1,309 New Cases, Totaling 215,098 With 0 New Deaths And 197,693 Recovered

SANTA FE — New Mexico state health officials Monday announced 1,309 additional COVID-19 cases from Saturday through Monday.

Los Alamos County reports 4 new cases bringing the total to 570 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

This update includes 0 new deaths in New Mexico Aug. 7-9 related to COVID-19.

Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:

  • 339 new cases in Bernalillo County
