The weather has gotten cooler-sharply cooler on some mornings with some areas reporting frost here in the Española Valley.

The State Game and Fish Department has started stocking rainbow trout in a few of the municipal lakes and ponds that are part of the Department’s Winter Trout Program.

Tingley Beach in Albuquerque was stocked Oct. 4 with 1,124 rainbow trout. Estancia Park Lake received a stocking Oct. 5 of 224 rainbow trout.

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) is soliciting community feedback in this year’s K-8 ELA (English Language Arts) Textbook adoption process.

The public is invited to attend the monthly meetings of the K-8 ELA Adoption team from 3 – 4 p.m. to view and provide comments on the samples that the adoption team is considering.

SFNF Plans 1,600 Acre Prescribed Burn On Jemez District

SANTA FE — Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) are looking for an optimal window between now and the end of October to conduct the Stable Canyon prescribed burn.

The 1,600-acre treatment area is adjacent to Forest Road 604 approximately 6 miles north/northwest of the village of Jemez Springs.

Ignitions could begin as early as Wednesday, Oct. 13. A final decision on whether to proceed depends on multiple conditions, including resource availability, fuel moisture levels, air quality and forecasted weather. Prescribed burns are designed to meet specific objectives
