Los Alamos Hockey Sweeps Amarillo On Home Ice

The Los Alamos Hockey Team swept the Amarillo Big Texan Bulls in a two-game series played this past Saturday and Sunday at the County Ice Rink. In Saturday night’s game Los Alamos won by a score of 7-3, in spite of the score, both teams played an exciting hard-fought game to the enjoyment of the crowd. Toppers Defeat Moriarty Pintos In District Opener

The Toppers started district play with a big win over the Moriarty Pintos in Griffith Gym Thursday night. After a slow start the coach, Benito Maestas, called a time out and that changed the game for the Toppers who came out and played the best game they have put together this season winning 70-48. The Toppers dominated the game with an aggressive offense and a strong defense. They scored from all over the court with 8-3’s and converting most of their free-throws. On defense the Toppers blocked shots, stole the ball and caused turnovers which took the Pintos out of the game. Every player was a contributor. Read More

Study: First Data On Concussion Risk In Youth Football

For decades, there’s been a widespread assumption among people with an interest in sports-related injury that youth football players are more vulnerable to concussion and other head injuries than their older, bigger counterparts.

Topper Girls Basketball Garners 10th Straight Win!

The Topper Girls basketball team won its 10th game in a row in a hard fought game against the Moriarty Lady Pintos Tuesday night in Griffith Gym. The Toppers trailed the entire game due to the fast pace offense and stiff defense of the Pinto’s until the closing seconds of the 4th quarter. The Toppers scored a basket to take the game into overtime and 4-minutes later the Toppers managed to pull off the victory 58-54. Topper Boys Basketball Seriously Challenge Chargers

The Topper Boys Basketball team traveled Tuesday night to Albuquerque to play the Academy Chargers. The Chargers are ranked the number one team in New Mexico and the Toppers had upset on their minds as the defense held the Chargers to 23 points in the first half and went to the locker room with the lead in the game 24-23. The offense played even with the Chargers until the closing minutes of the contest when the Chargers made several free throws to win the game 55-50. The Toppers continue to show improvement. Third Annual Adult Hockey Tournament Jan. 17-19

The 3rd Annual Adult Hockey Tournament begins Friday, Jan. 17 and goes through Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink with 14 teams competing from New Mexico, Texas and Colorado.

Gavin Compos worked his way down court in a game played Saturday afternoon in Griffith Gymnasium against the Artesia Bulldogs. The Toppers started out hot and had a 20-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Bulldogs, who had a tough game against the Pojoaque Elks the night before, started to come to life and ended up winning the game 66-57.
