Letter To The Editor: Hold Judiciary Accountable

Since the tragic death of Rio Rancho Police officer Gregg Benner, we’ve heard a lot about judicial accountability, oversight and transparency, all of which are woefully lacking when it comes to keeping violent repeat offenders off our streets.
 
Not long after our community was struck with the news of this travesty, we discovered that the career criminal accused in this crime was facing three indictments but instead was given early release from a possible 13-year prison sentence.

Searchers Recover Body Of Missing Hiker Walter Scheib

TAOSSearch and Rescue workers located the body of Walter Scheib Sunday evening in the expanded search area where he went hiking June 13 near Taos.

Scheib was the White House executive chef from 1994 until 2005 and had recently moved to the area. His body was discovered approximately 1.7 miles from the base of the Yerba Canyona Trail.

The New Mexico State Police coordinated a search and rescue mission that involved numerous agencies and resources after a family member reported him missing June 16 to the Taos Police Department.

FBI: Pima Salt River Tribe Member Pleads Guilty In NM

ALBUQUERQUE — Patrick Watuema, 55, an enrolled member of the Pima Salt River Tribe in Ariz., has pleaded guilty to a felony information charging him with aggravated sexual abuse.
 
Under the terms of his plea agreement, Watuema will be sentenced to 10 years in federal prison followed by a term of supervised release to be determined by the court. Watuema also will be required to register as a sex offender.

TAOS The New Mexico State Police is actively engaged in and monitoring a coordinated search and rescue mission for missing person Walter S. Scheib III. 

This mission is ongoing and involves numerous agencies and resources.

On June 11, Phil Breidenbach officially assumed the role of NWP President & Project Manager, replacing Bob McQuinn. McQuinn served in that capacity for just over a year.
 
Breidenbach, who brings over 30 years of experience working at various Department of Energy facilities, served a key role in the development of the WIPP Recovery Plan following the radiological event. Governor Unveils Ad Campaign To End DWI

Friday, Gov. Susana Martinez unveiled an ad campaign that raises awareness about the dangers and consequences of drunk driving.

The Governor also kicked off 100 Days and Nights of Summer, a statewide law enforcement effort that puts more police officers on the roads to target drunk drivers.
