Former Los Alamos resident Joseph Gonzales, 28, pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque to endangering human life while illegally manufacturing a controlled substance.

At sentencing, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.

State Police Investigate Fatal Crash In Santa Fe

NMSP News:

SANTA FE COUNTY – New Mexico State Police officers investigated a single-vehicle fatal crash around 2 p.m. Friday, which occurred on Interstate 25 at mile marker 264 in Santa Fe County.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle driven by Dennis Raymond Branch, 66, of Santa Fe, was traveling northbound when the vehicle drifted into the center median.

The vehicle struck the center barrier and stopped. Branch sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

This crash remains under investigation with no further information available. Read More

In Los Alamos County very few crimes related to the online exploitation of children appear in the local police blotter and people tend to think crimes of this nature occur mostly in big cities in other parts of the country.

Participants in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Albuquerque Division Annual Citizens Academy were reminded March 29 of the extent of the online threat to children in New Mexico by Special Agent Ross Zuercher who described some recent cases in which the FBI was involved.

Sheriff Candidate Files Lawsuit Against County

James Whitehead, a candidate for Los Alamos County Sheriff, has filed a lawsuit in First Judicial District Court against Los Alamos County, Los Alamos Police Department, Los Alamos County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Division, and Los Alamos County Records Custodian Barb Ricci under the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA).

Isaiah Aylmer Faces New Charges

Isaiah Aylmer, 18, of Los Alamos is facing a second preliminary hearing April 27 in Los Alamos Magistrate Court after racking up new charges while out of jail on conditions of release on a March 19 felony charge of stealing a firearm.

Aylmer was charged April 9 with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
