NNSA Removes Radioactive Samples From Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute In Albuquerque

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA), in close cooperation with the state of New Mexico, successfully retrieved, packaged, and transported Dec.18, a total of 50 sample containers of plutonium-239 and americium-241 from the Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI) in Albuquerque, to Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for processing and disposition.

ESPAÑOLA — Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation announces a Save the Date for its competitive 2021 Outreach Grant application launch.

The Foundation’s upcoming Outreach Grant cycle is offered one time each year with up to $5,000 in available funding per proposal. 

Applications can support programs – as well as operational funding towards organizational capacity-building.

The focus was primarily on the economy at Tuesday’s Los Alamos National Laboratory Community Conversation via Zoom. Laboratory Director Thom Mason opened with an update on the Lab’s response to COVID-19.

“We had to be very adaptable in our response to COVID-19,” Mason said. “The Lab is considered an essential service. Seventy percent of our staff is working remotely.”

LANL Holiday Giving Campaign Raises $2.8 Million

Los Alamos National Laboratory Director Thom Mason and Philanthropy Outreach Specialist Joanna Gillespie announce that employees donated $2.8 million to nonprofits based in the seven counties surrounding LANL: Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, San Miguel, Santa Fe and Taos. ‘It is heartwarming to see such an outpouring of generosity in a year where many of our neighbors across northern New Mexico are facing added hardship,’ Mason said.
