LRG News:

Fully vaccinated Lab retirees (and potential retirees) are invited to drop in at the Los Alamos Laboratory Retiree Group (LRG) monthly breakfast, 8:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7 at the Morning Glory Restaurant, 1377 Diamond Dr. across from Los Alamos High School.

Morning Glory serves a full breakfast and pastries. Retirees buy their breakfast; LRG will pay for coffee or tea.

NNSA Cancels Y-12, Pantex Contract Award, To Hold New Competitions For Separate Site Management Contracts

NNSA News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has announced that it is canceling its November 2020 contract solicitation for management and operation of the Pantex Plant and Y-12 National Security Complex and terminating the contract award announced in November 2021 for the two sites.

NNSA intends to hold two new competitions for separate contracts to manage each site.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of a profound tragedy in the history of Los Alamos. On May 19, 1972, a twin‐engine Beechcraft Queen‐Air, chartered by the Atomic Energy Commission to fly personnel to the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, lost an engine and nosedived into an open field.

Along with the pilot, eight Laboratory employees died at the scene, including Dr. Wright. H. Langham, associate division leader for biomedical research.
