Annual Chimayó Easter Pilgrimage is Underway

Pilgrims making their way to El Santuario de Chimayó were seen Thursday and Friday along the highway to the tiny shrine in Chimayó. They walk from short distances to 100 miles or more during Holy Week leading up the Easter Sunday.

Some carry wooden crosses. According to the Santuario de Chimayó website, tens of thousands of worshipers pass through the doors of the little chapel, built almost 200 years ago on a site that is sacred to many Pueblo Indians and descendants of Spanish settlers.

Taiji as Spiritual Practice

Beginning in April, the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos will offer a series of eight Saturday morning Taiji (T’ai Chi) classes to study the Yang Style 24 Forms. Classes will begin on Saturday, April 7th  from 11 AM to noon in Robinson Hall.

No previous experience is necessary. Classes will explore proper body alignment with coordination and flexibility exercises, and breathing techniques to cultivate the flow of Qi, or life energy. The restaurant in the little village of Lamy, 18 miles south of Santa Fe, has reopened for weekends after being closed for many years. It’s being run as a non-profit venture with proceeds going to the Lamy Railroad and History Museum located in the same building. Lamy is the Amtrak stop for Santa Fe, the first New Mexico place the early scientists saw when they arrived to work on the Manhattan Project.

A Quick Weekend Getaway to Taos

My wife and I decided we needed to get out of town overnight. We didn't want to spend a lot of time in the car so we decided to head to Taos and hit some of the museums we hadn't seen yet.

We called and got last minute reservations at the Sagebrush Inn, which is a funky historic adobe hotel on the left as you are driving into Taos from the South (a little before the Wal-Mart).
