LAFC News:
Los Alamos Family Council (LAFC) and First Born Program of Los Alamos (FBPLA) have collaborated to provide a parenting support group program for the local community, Parenting with Self-Compassion.
The program will be facilitated by licensed mental health therapist Jamie A. Thordsen Monroy, of LAFC. The first meeting is Saturday Aug. 27 and will run on a weekly basis for a duration of 8 weeks.
All parents with at least one child that qualifies within the specified age range are welcome to join. This program is FREE, will be face-to-face, and is open to anyone in the community, but priority will be given to First Born families. Unfortunately, we cannot offer childcare but participants may bring an infant (pre-crawling) to the sessions.
Meeting times and topics for the two groups:
- The Newborn – children aged 0-6 months meets 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays; and
- The Pre-Toddler – children aged 12-24 months meets 1-2:30 p.m. Saturdays.
Interested parents and caregivers need to register to attend the group. Participants should plan to attend all sessions, and registration will be capped at 10 families per group session. Group members will be expected to actively participate in conversations about the proposed topic of the day through sharing of their questions and personal experiences.
