Los Alamos County Sustainability Manager Angelica Gurule, in collaboration with environmental consulting firm Cascadia, is inviting the community to an interactive workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave.

Gurule was tasked by the Los Alamos County Council in 2023 with developing a climate action plan to reduce the county’s greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability.

County Social Services Manager To Present Comprehensive Health Plan Interim Report To Council Tuesday

Los Alamos County Social Services Manager Jessica Strong will present an interim report on the status of the Comprehensive Health Plan at Tuesday’s Council meeting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave.

The Los Alamos County Council tasked the Los Alamos County Health Council in 2022 to develop a health plan in accordance with New Mexico legislation that would monitor local health and health care, advise on policies that affect health care, facilitate communication, and identify resources to improve health.

New Mexico County Insurance Authority Elects Officers

SANTA FE – At its first regular Board meeting following the Jan. 16, 2024 General Membership meeting, the New Mexico County Insurance Authority (NMCIA) Board of Directors held elections for officers on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

Officers will serve until the first regular board meeting in 2025.

  • Curry County Manager Lance Pyle as Chair;

Mike Lippiatt Briefs Kiwanis On Golf Course Construction

At the March 12 meeting of the Kiwanis Club, Los Alamos Golf Course Manager Mike Lippiatt gave a presentation outlining the construction work in progress at the golf course.

The golf course was built and opened in 1947 and, other than an irrigation upgrade, the current renovation project is the “first facelift the course has had in 75 years,” Lippiatt said. The final design for this project was approved by the Los Alamos County Council in 2023. Read More

Right Lane Closure On Diamond At Trinity Begins March 26

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets will be closing the Northbound right lane at the intersection of Diamond Drive and Trinity Drive near the hospital.

They will be performing maintenance on existing vertical panels. Bicycle and pedestrian traffic will not be interrupted.

The project will begin from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 26. Traffic is urged to slow down in the area and watch out for crews and equipment.

Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-Use Trail Project Construction Activities: Week Of March 25

Hasse Contracting Company Inc., under contract with Los Alamos County Public Works to construct the Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-use Trail Project, will have construction activities at the following locations downtown and along and off Canyon Road during the week of March 25.  

Weather permitting, areas impacted include (see included maps below):

  • Work Zone Area 1: Within the Fuller Lodge grounds adjacent to Central Ave. and heading north towards the Romero Cabin – This section of the trail has been opened to pedestrians.

NACo On Action To Improve 9-8-8 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

NACo News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Association of Counties (NACo) Friday applauded an announcement from bipartisan congressional leaders and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel regarding steps to improve the 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

The FCC will issue a notice of proposed rulemaking on georouting for 9-8-8, a priority for NACo and its Commission on Mental Health and Wellbeing. 

Since launching in 2022, there have been over seven million calls to 9-8-8, making it an essential tool for counties in supporting the mental health of residents. Read More

County: Gas Line Repair In White Rock On March 26

Weather permitting, the repair of a gas line in White Rock is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26. The work will begin at 8:30 a.m. and should last no later than 4 p.m.

A crew with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will be digging up a gas main to fix the gas service line to 37 Grand Canyon Dr., between Canyon Vista Street and Mesa Verde Street.
