Military Order Of The World Wars Meets Oct. 17

This month’s meeting of the Military Order of the World Wars is Tuesday Oct. 17.
 
The speaker is Joe Bergstein who will talk about his life in Bataan and as a Death March survivor and Japanese POW.
 
The meeting is in the Los Alamos Research Park 2nd floor conference room. The Los Alamos Research building is west of the South Mesa Fire Station.

LAHS Choir Pumpkin Patch Opening Soon

CHOIR News:

The Los Alamos High School Choir Pumpkin Patch is getting set to open again this year on 4th Street.

The Patch was set to open Sunday is at the mercy of the limited amount of truck drivers available, due to the hurricanes, and the pumpkins aren’t arriving until today.

Depending on how late the truck rolls up to the site on 4th Street will determine whether the patch opens today or Tuesday. Read More

Snow And Freezing Temps Moving Into Area

The National Weather Service has announced that the vast majority of impactful weather this week is expected to move into the area this afternoon through Tuesday morning. 

Weather details:

  • A quick hitting fall system will bring colder temperatures and snow to northern New Mexico. Snow should begin by early afternoon across the Sangre de Cristo mountains and Raton Pass. 
  • One to 3 inches of snow is possible around Raton Pass where at least minor impacts to I-25 are anticipated.
  • Two to 4 inches of snow are expected above 9,000 feet, with local amounts over 5 inches

Countywide Road Striping Begins Wednesday

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division will be working with contractor San Bar Construction, which will be striping various roadways throughout the county beginning Wednesday, Oct. 11.

The striping will begin on Diamond Drive and proceed to side streets from there. The work should be completed by Friday, Oct. 13, depending on weather conditions.

San Bar will not be striping during morning and evening commute hours.

Note: Be mindful of the striping equipment, follow all traffic control signs/cones and please DO NOT drive on the freshly painted stripes. Read More

Los Alamos High School Senior Parent Night Oct. 12

LAHS News:

Current Los Alamos High School seniors and their parents are invited to attend Senior Parent Night at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 in the Speech Theater.

“This is a great opportunity for our counseling staff to meet with students and parents who may still have questions about life after high school,” said Cindy Black, one the guidance counselors at the high school.

FINALLY! I had lost all hope that Los Alamos County would take a stand against the downright bullying of our sheriff.

 
From the first day he was elected as sheriff he has had his own agenda, not the citizens of Los Alamos County, of what the duties of our sheriff should be. And, he has been trying his best to shove it down our throats.
