Shuttle Service To Bandelier Begins Thursday May 17

It’s been a very busy spring at Bandelier National Monument. So busy that there’s just not enough parking in the Frijoles Canyon parking areas near the Visitor Center! 
 
Shuttle service starts back up Thursday, May 17. As well, the Bandelier Visitor Center hours will lengthen, 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. and the Los Alamos County White Rock Visitor Center hours are 8 a.m.- 6 p.m.

The Los Alamos Farmers Market is 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17 at the parking lot on Central Ave., between Mesa Public Library and Fuller Lodge.

Environment New Mexico is deploying dozens of door-knockers this summer, including in Los Alamos, to help educate New Mexicans about the plastic waste that is killing our wildlife.

Explore Ancient Astronomical Myths And Discoveries With Paul Arendt At Los Alamos Nature Center

The community is invited to join Paul Arendt to discover ancient ideas and myths that early cultures created to explain the patterns and behaviors of the sky. This planetarium show is 7 p.m. Friday, May 18 at the Los Alamos Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road.

Arendt also will examine how Babylonian and Greek astronomers determined specific properties of the Earth, Moon and Solar System. He will explain astronomical theories that originated in the Western World up to the time of Newton.

Los Alamos High School alumni Matt Davenport has received the 2018 Brown Award at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro.

Davenport, who graduated with a with a degree in chemical engineering, received a plaque and a $1,000 prize at Saturday’s commencement ceremony. He also was named Engineering Student of the Year for 2018.
