LAHS Staff Receives Royal Feast

Los Alamos High School staff was treated to a magnificent feast for lunch on Friday catered by members of the Topper Parent Organization (TPO.)
Some 30 parents prepared everything from posole to some delicious, decadent chocolate mousse concoction containing fudge and Heath bars. Several parents were on hand to set up the luncheon and serve the staff.

Los Alamos County Councilor Vincent Chiravalle, right, on behalf of the Council, presents Los Alamos Site Office Manager Kevin W. Detectives from the Los Alamos Police Department’s Investigations Division, working in conjunction with the Albuquerque Police Department’s Auto Theft Division, have apprehended a man suspected in the recent rash of auto burglaries in Los Alamos.
Skylar B. Smith, 20, of Rio Rancho, who previously lived in Los Alamos, was arrested Monday, Dec. 1 on a Los Alamos warrant for auto burglary and theft of credit cards.

Public Invited to Valles Caldera Trust Board Meeting

Jemez Springs – The Valles Caldera Trust Board of Trustees will conduct a meeting in public scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Spa in Albuquerque.
The meeting agenda will include a year-end budget update for Fiscal Year 2012, a report on the State of the Preserve, a presentation on restoration and stewardship projects, and a review of the 2012 livestock program and public visitation.

New Social Group Forming in Town

A new social group is forming in town called “Los Alamos Friends” for people new to Los Alamos, single or who just want to make some friends and have a little fun.
While some folks in town were born and raised here, most are transplants from all over the U.S. and the world. Many come here alone, and without family and support, and Los Alamos can be a lonely place.

Sand is now available at these locations:
- Overlook Park – in south Parking Lot

Seventeen Los Alamos High School band students have been selected for participation or as alternates for the 2013 All State Concert Ensembles.
Some 1,000 entrants from around the state competed to perform at the all-state clinic and conference in Albuquerque Jan. 9-12, 2013.

The Iranian film “A Separation” (2011) is one of the best films I’ve seen in awhile. It purports to be about putting a child through divorce, and the difficulties of caring for a parent with Alzheimer’s disease. I suppose it is. But it begins and ends in an Iranian court house, and for me the focus really became how people tell their sides, and the fact that there is no truth, or at least no single truth.

Community Winds Holiday Prism Concert Sheds Light on Local Talent

The Los Alamos Community Winds started a new holiday tradition last year with the Community Holiday Prism Concert.
This year, the second annual Holiday Prism Concert will take place directly after the Holiday Lights Parade at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec 8 at the Crossroads Bible Church. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted.
The Winds have invited a number of local musicians to perform with them at this concert.
