The Los Alamos Community Winds started a new holiday tradition last year with the Community Holiday Prism Concert.

This year, the second annual Holiday Prism Concert will take place directly after the Holiday Lights Parade at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec 8 at the Crossroads Bible Church. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted.

The Winds have invited a number of local musicians to perform with them at this concert.

“This concert is a celebration of the variety of performers in White Rock and Los Alamos,” Winds Musical Director Ted Vives said. “The idea is that we separate the ensemble into parts and add different kinds of music.”

The concert is performed in the round, so the audience is literally surrounded by music. All of the music celebrates the holiday season.

In addition to brass and woodwind ensembles, the evening  will include guitar, vocals  piano, a hand bell choir, and a rendition of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” narrated by Morrie Pongratz with musical accompaniment by the Winds. At the end of the concert, the audience will be invited to participate in a sing-a-long.

“We hope the concert will be a yearly celebration and attract more and more people,” Vives said. “This is our gift to the community.”
