Governor Launches New Mexico Film Trails Map and Webpage

STATE News:

ALBUQUERQUE—Gov. Susana Martinez has assisted in the launch of New Mexico’s new Film Trails Map and Webpage that will help visitors experience authentic movie adventures in New Mexico.

The new travel planning resource created by the state’s Tourism Department can be found here. The website can be used by in-state travelers as well as out-of-state visitors planning a New Mexico vacation or visit. Martinez made her announcement Monday at the Albuquerque Studios.

Travelers can plan trips based on popular movies and TV series shot in New Mexico, Martinez said. Read More

SHANE LEE SCHULTZ Feb. 1, 1970–June 19, 2013

Shane Lee Schultz, 43, of Neola, Utah, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Shane served as a Combat Engineer, First Infantry Division, US Army, based at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He served in Afghanistan, was disabled, and received a medical retirement in 2012.

Shane was born February 1, 1970, in Deming, New Mexico, the second of three sons of George R. Schultz and Barbara Knowles Schultz. Shane grew up in Moab, Utah. Los Alamos Fire Chief Troy Hughes commented this morning on public safety and the upcoming fireworks display sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.

 

The County contracts with the Kiwanis to provide the fireworks for the popular, family-friendly annual event held at Overlook Park in White Rock each Independence Day. At this point, the fireworks display is scheduled to go on as planned; however, Hughes stressed that many public safety and fire-wise considerations have been taken into account in the early planning stages.

Garden Signs and Bird Feeders Vandalized at Mountain School

The Mountain Elementary School PTA has announced that garden signs and bird feeders at the school were vandalized over the weekend of June 22-23.

The PTO would like to encourage the community to keep a watchful eye out and report and any vandalism to the Mountain School principal or the Los Alamos Police Department.

The PTA will replace the classroom garden signs and feeders when school resumes in August. The gardens are funded by a grant from the LAPS Foundation and Mountain School PTA. Read More

The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos has kicked off its annual recognition of local students selected to recieve educational scholarships. Jordan Ahlers graduated from Los Alamos High School and was honored at a recent Kiwanis meeting. She will attend Hillsdale College in Michigan in the fall to study pre-law or engineering. Gov. Susana Martinez joined law enforcement officials to launch the Summer Safety Blast.

The season-long initiative focuses on decreasing traffic deaths by enforcing DWI and seat belt laws. The safety blast includes State Police’s new zero tolerance policy on unrestrained drivers and passengers, including children not properly restrained in a child safety seat.

The initiative also includes:

  • National Click It Or Ticket seatbelt campaign; and
  • New Mexico’s 100 Days of Summer D.W.I. crackdown.

The Los Alamos Family YMCA’s Youth Conservation Corps celebrates its biggest summer crew yet – with 38 crew members, three crew leaders and two on-the-job trainers.

SANTA FE—A bronze statue of U.S. Army Sgt. First Class Leroy Petry was unveiled at Santa Fe City Hall’s South Lawn Monday.
