Los Alamos Community Winds will present “Cinco de Mayo – Celebrating a Century of the Music and Dance of Mexico and New Mexico,” at 7 p.m., Saturday May 5, at Crossroads Bible Church.
Los Nños de Santa Fe will perform traditional Mexican dances, directed and choreographed by Antonina Valdez Romp, on three pieces (Danzón no. 2 by Arturo Marquez, Huapango by José Pablo Moncayo, and La Bamba de Vera Cruz by Terig Tucci).

In 2011, three people a week requested financial assistance at The Family YMCA so their children could participate in after school, or camp, or so they could participate in healthy programs.
In the end, 148 people were awarded more than $75,000 in assistance.
The Y is running its annual Strong Kids Campaign, a fundraising drive to support these scholarships.

A contingent of community, business and civic leaders arrived in Richland, Wash., today to confer on the possible inclusion of Los Alamos, Oak Ridge and Hanford as a unit in the national park system. Rotary Crab Fest Fundraiser Breaks Record
The Los Alamos Rotary Club’s thrid annual “All-You-Can-Eat Crab Fest” fundraiser held Feb. 26 at Central Avenue Grill drew a record crowd and topped previous years in terms of proceeds from the dinner and silent and live auction events. The Family YMCA is now taking registration for its May 5th and June 2nd First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification courses. The courses, taught by American Red Cross certified instructors, are generally scheduled for the first Saturday of each month throughout the year.

County Council Tables Amending LAPS Leases
Councilor Vincent Chiravalle proposed an ordinance amending and restating both the Master Ground Lease Agreement and the Airport Basin Lease Agreement between the County and Los Alamos Public Schools. If approved, the changes would result in some $200,000 annually to the schools. Council voted 6-1 to table the measure until the Trinity Site Project is solidified. Creative District Plan Adoption is Under Discussion
