$400 to Young Entrepreneurs to Start a Business

Summer 2012 Youth Business Grant Program

If you are between the ages of 13 and 19 and have a great business idea then this unique opportunity is for you.

The Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation (LACDC) in conjunction with UNM-LA Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is providing a fantastic opportunity to youth in the communities of Los Alamos, Jemez Springs, Espanola and Pojoaque.

The Youth Business Grant Program (YBGP) provides youth the opportunity to experience the rewards of starting and running a business. The Youth Business Grant Program will provide up to $400 to enterprising young business people who want to start a business this summer.

The YBGP helps show youth there is an alternative to a wage or salary job, not just for the summer but for the future. Applicants are required to fill out a Mini-Business Plan and then present it to a group of local business people.

The YBGP wants young entrepreneurs to gain the knowledge of what it takes to run their own business. Mentors, experienced local business people, are available throughout the summer if they need any advice.

Applications for the Summer 2012 Youth Business Grant Program are available online at www.ybgp.org. Download the YBGP Mini-Business Plan Application on the ‘How to Apply’ page. The deadline for returning the completed Mini-Business Plan Applications is 5 p.m., Wednesday May 16.

This program would not be possible without the continued support of local businesses. Thank you to past supporters: New Mexico Community Foundation, SMSI, Los Alamos Retiree Group, Plateau Property Management, Zia Credit Union, TRK Management, LANB, Lorraine Hartway, The Coffee Booth, Neptune and Company, The Decadent Table, REMAX of Los Alamos and SMPC Architects.

For more information and application, please visit the website at www.ybgp.org. For additional information or any questions, please contact Katie Stavert at (505) 661-4805.
