NNSA/DOE Deputy Director Juan Griego of LASO Discusses Rendija Canyon Property

Los Alamos Site Office Deputy Manager Juan Griego addressed the Los Alamos County Council this evening ragarding the Departments of Energy’s 885 acres of land in Rendija Canyon slated to be conveyed to Los Alamos County within  a year’s time. Griego explained that a portion of the property is leased to the Los Alamos Sportsman’s Club. Much of the area in that area dubbed “the Poorman’s Shooting Range,” has been littered by tresspassers and the area has been used for illegal shooting practice. Griego said that Los Alamos Police Chief Wayne Torpy has been “very responsive” in stepping up patrols in the area in an effort to put a stop to the illegal activity. He also said that the gate to the area has been repaired and that :no tresspassing” and “no firearms” allowed will be posted soon. Photo by Carol A. Clark/ladailypost.com
