SFNF Issues Order Prohibiting Underage Drinking
SFNF News:
SANTA FE – In order to provide for public health and safety, protect resources and comply with state law on underage drinking, the Santa Fe National Forest issued an order prohibiting the consumption of alcoholic beverages by anyone under the age of 21 within Forest boundaries.
The order, which is in effect until April 30, 2017, allows Forest Service law enforcement personnel to issue citations to violators. Letter To The Editor: Against Holding Valles Caldera ‘In Trust’ For Pueblo
By STEVE PATTILLO While the possibility of joint management of the preserve by the National Park Service and Jemez Pueblo is possibly a good idea: I am against the holding, by the National Park Service, of the Valles “in trust” for the pueblo.
The Pueblo have repeatedly tried and failed to gain control of the Valles through the courts and appears to now be attempting to create facts on the ground as a method of eventually gaining control.

State Police Seek Help With Hit And Run Crash

SANTA FE COUNTY – The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) is seeking the public’s assistance in the investigation of a hit and run crash, which resulted in severe injuries to an 18-year-old male from Santa Fe.
At around 8:45 p.m., Friday, April 3, Christian Diaz was walking the pilgrimage along N.M. 503 to El Santuario de Chimayó. He was struck by a vehicle driving northbound on N.M. 503 near milepost 2.
Witnesses on scene described the hit and run vehicle as a white, early to middle-2000 year model Toyota pickup, possibly a Tacoma model.

Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent Gene Schmidt is among five finalists for the Farmington Municipal School District superintendent position.
His name was announced at a March 12 School Board meeting at which the board narrowed its selection from 15 candidates.

Judge Sentences Stephen M. Geisik Of Los Alamos To 364 Days In Jail In Child Molestation Case
Staff ReportJudge Mary Marlowe-Sommer orders convicted child molester Stephen M. Geisik of Los Alamos to serve 364 days in the Los Alamos County Jail.
Geisik, 23, was facing more than 30 years in prison for his April 2012 charge of criminal sexual penetration of a child less than 13 years of age. Los Alamos police also charged Geisik, who was 21 years old at the time, with contributing to the delinquency of a child.
The judge sentenced Geisik for these crimes during a District Court hearing Monday at the Justice Center in Los Alamos.
