Jingle Bell Rock ‘N Run 5K Sunday

LAHS News:

The Los Alamos High School Band is hosting the Jingle Bell Rock ‘N Run this Sunday, Dec. 13 to raise money for their upcoming trip to Washington, D.C.

The fun run includes the choice of a 5K or 1 mile run and is modeled after the popular Rock and Roll marathons featuring live music along the routes. Students from Los Alamos High School and Los Alamos Middle School will play holiday tunes for the runners.  

Costs are $30 for the 5K and $10 for the mile. The mile starts at 2 p.m. and the 5K at 2:30 pm. Both runs start and finish at the Los Alamos Middle School.

Los Alamos Bomb Squad Calls On The Rise

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department is one of six New Mexico police departments maintaining a fully staffed bomb squad certified by the FBI.

Five certified bomb technicians comprise the local squad, which in 2014, responded to five calls. So far in 2015, they have responded to 23 calls.

Lane Closures To Begin In Pojoaque On NM 502

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will begin paving operations on N.M. 502 (mile maker 9) near the Cities of Gold Casino in Pojoaque. 

Starting Thursday, Dec. 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., N.M. 502 will have intermittent lane closures on the southbound and northbound lanes.  Motorists can expect minor delays during this time.

The paving operation work is scheduled to be completed Dec. 10, 2015; weather permitting. 

Drivers are urged to proceed with caution through the work zone, observe traffic control signs and reduce speed to the posted limit.  Read More

Neither arrests nor charges indicate a conviction, and neither means that a person is guilty of the charges filed against them.

Dec. 2 at 2:55 p.m. / A 55-year-old Los Alamos man reported that someone damaged his property on Diamond Drive. The estimated loss is less than $1,000.

Dec. 2 at 3:45 p.m. / A 54-year-old Los Alamos woman reported that someone burglarized her home on Sereno. The estimated loss is unknown.

Planetarium Showing ‘Exoplanets’ Film This Weekend

Pajarito Environmental Education Center is bringing Exoplanets back to the Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium at 2 p.m., Dec. 12 and Dec. 13.

Exoplanets takes audiences on a journey to observeplanets beyond our solar systemand uncover the science and astronomy behind their discovery. This full-dome film was produced by Casper Planetarium.

This week, School Board members and LAPS officials held a community meeting to seek public input about proposed music wing renovations at Los Alamos High School.

Property Tax Reminder: First Half Due Thursday

Payments for the first half of Los Alamos County property tax bills for 2015 will become delinquent after Thursday, Dec. 10. 

Payment must either be made in person at the 311 Customer Care Center by 5 p.m., Thursday or postmarked by midnight that same day to avoid late payment penalty and interest charges.
