The League of Women Voters “Lunch with a Leader” is 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15 in the upstairs meeting rooms at Mesa Library in Los Alamos. The public is welcome to attend.
Suki Halevi, director of the Anti-Defamation League(ADL) of New Mexico will be the speaker. The ADL works to combat all hate crimes, bullying and cyberbullying, voter rights, LGBT rights and so on.
Halevi completed her BA at Vassar College, her master’s at Tufts, and her law degree at Duke. A serious, dedicated woman of principle, she came to Albuquerque after seven years on the island of Maui. She stands on the traditions she learned growing up in Beth El Synagogue in West Hartford, Conn. She was inspired by Rabbi Stanley Kessler, a prominent civil rights leader. who demonstrated with the Freedom Riders and marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and with Kessler’s teacher, Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel.
Halevi will be discussing the anti-defamation league in general, but will address voters rights specifically.
