Local Doctor Aided Troop Withdrawal from Iraq

Dr. Paul Daly, MD, spoke to the Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos during a recent lunch meeting about his military experiences in Iraq.

Daly lives in White Rock and is a colonel in the Army Reserve. He returned in late December from his fourth mobilization.

During this deployment, Daly was assigned to the 310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) Brigade as its command surgeon.

The 310th ESC is based out of Indianapolis, Ind., but draws soldiers from several neighboring states.

I’m grateful to my friends — my new friends for giving me a chance and my old friends for hanging in there with me all this time.

I’ve done things like lose touch for 30 years until rediscovering someone of Facebook and low and behold, most of these people still want to be friends with me.

Maybe that’s less surprising than that people right here in Los Alamos put up with me on a daily basis.

You don’t get another chance with everyone.

Los Alamos students made the most of a delay in their trip this week visiting countries in Europe. Teacher Lynn Ovaska wrote: “Our bus getting back to the hotel was delayed when another school missed the meeting time. Instead of being upset, we all went back over to the Eiffel Tower and laid underneath it when the lights sparkled. I will forever remember this moment together and this amazing group of kids who entertained each other With charades, dancing, and jokes until the bus arrived. LANL: After-hours, Weekend Changes Through East Jemez Road Vehicle Access Portal Begin Monday

Beginning Monday, June 18, all vehicles entering Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) Vehicle Access Portal at East Jemez Road must use center lane number 4 between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. weekdays and all day on weekends.

All other lanes will be closed during LANL’s non-work hours.

During these hours, drivers and bicyclists must stop at the center lane guard post and proceed only upon verbal or hand-signal direction from a LANL protective force officer.

Orange traffic safety cones will be used to funnel vehicle traffic into the center lane.
