Science On Tap Features Cathy Wilson On Climate Change 5:30 p.m. Thursday

Science On Tap happens every third Thursday of the month, featuring a new topic each time. This month, Cathy Wilson will discuss climate change at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at UnQuarked Wine Room, 145 Central Park Square. in Los Alamos .

Wilson, who heads Los Alamos Nationalal Laboratory’s Atmosphere, Climate and Ecosystem Science team, is working to better understand what happens when warming climate causes Arctic permafrost to thaw. As the ground warms up, previously frozen soil carbon is decomposed and released as green house gases—adding to global warming. Read More

God tells the prophet, Isaiah, that the Hebrew people “seem” to be eager to know God’s ways. He tells Isaiah that they act like a nation that is doing what is right. They ask God to make just decisions for them, and they “seem” to “be eager for God to come close to them” (Isaiah 58:1-2).

Pat Soran was recently chosen by unanimous vote of the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Advisory Board to fill a position on the board vacated when Michael DiRosa resigned to accept a change of station to the Pentagon.

Pawar Receives Rotary Student Of The Year Award

Rotarian Karen Easton, left, recently presented LAHS junior Aneesh Pawar with a Student of the Year award. Pawar demonstrates the spirit of service exemplified by Rotary. Faith & Science Forum: ‘What Makes Us Human?’ May 19

The Los Alamos Faith & Science Forum is holding a series on the topic “What Makes Us Human?”. The next session is May 19.

The group meets at Kelly Hall at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church. Applications are being accepted until May 27 to fill one position on the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).
