Applications Accepted For BPU Vacancy

COUNTY News:

Applications are being accepted until May 27 to fill one position on the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).

Comprising five members, the BPU governs the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), a county-owned utility that provides Los Alamos with electric, water, natural gas and wastewater services. The selected individual will fill a position to be vacated on July 1 due to an expiring term.

Members of the BPU work together with the DPU to serve and represent the interests of the community. Through policy direction, the BPU guides DPU’s senior management to realize its mission to create a “high-performing utility, matched to [the] community, contributing to its future with diversified and innovative utility solutions.” BPU meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave.

To qualify for consideration, interested applicants must be 18 years or older, be a resident of Los Alamos County for a minimum of one year prior to appointment, be registered to vote, not hold public office nor be an employee of the County government, and not conduct any business with the DPU except as a consumer.

Additional information about the BPU and its mission are available online at http://goo.gl/XlxNPz.  Applications are also available online at http://bit.ly/1NbhEMP or pick up a hard copy at the 311 Customer Care Center or the Municipal Building lobby, 1000 Central Avenue.

Applications must be submitted before 5 p.m. Friday, May 27 to the County Administrator’s Office. Instructions are included on the application form.
