Los Alamos Public Schools Winter Break Dec. 22-Jan. 2

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) will be on Winter Break beginning Monday, Dec. 22 through Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.

Teachers and staff will return to school sites on Monday, Jan. 5, which will be a work/planning day. All students will return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 6, for the start of the spring semester

The district office will be closed Monday, Dec. 22, through Friday, Dec. 26, and on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

Update: Los Alamos County Government Offices To Close For Observed Holidays Thursdays Dec. 25 And Jan. 1

In observance of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, Los Alamos County government offices and services will join other federal, state, and local governments and close on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, and Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

County Administrative Offices, senior centers, Atomic City Transit service, and the Environmental Services Division will be closed on both days.

FBI: Taos Pueblo Man Charged For Hatchet Assault

FBI News:

ALBUQUERQUE — A Taos Pueblo man has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly attacking another man with hatchets.

According to court documents, Aug. 6, 2025, Joe Daniel Gomez, 49, an enrolled member of the Taos Pueblo, allegedly assaulted John Doe with two hatchets, which caused Doe to suffer serious bodily injury.

Gomez is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. He will remain in a halfway house pending trial, which has not yet been scheduled. If convicted, Gomez faces up to 10 years in prison.
