COUNTY News:
In observance of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, Los Alamos County government offices and services will join other federal, state, and local governments and close on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, and Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
County Administrative Offices, senior centers, Atomic City Transit service, and the Environmental Services Division will be closed on both days.
In addition, the following facilities will close or have modified hours:
White Rock Branch and Mesa Public libraries
- Wednesday–Christmas Eve: Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Thursday–Christmas Day: Closed
- Wednesday–New Year’s Eve: Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Noon Year’s Eve event 10:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
- Thursday–New Year’s Day: Closed
Aquatic Center and Leisure Lagoon
- Wednesday–Christmas Eve: Open 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Thursday–Christmas Day: Closed
- Wednesday–New Year’s Eve: Open 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Thursday–New Year’s Day: Closed
- Wednesday–Christmas Eve: Golf Shop Open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Thursday–Christmas Day: Closed
- Wednesday–New Year’s Eve: Golf Shop Open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Thursday–New Year’s Day: Closed

Open Gym Programs – All programs are canceled Dec. 22, 2025 – January 4, 2026.
Environmental Services – The Eco Station and Overlook Convenience Center will be closed on Thursday–Christmas Day, and Thursday–New Year’s Day. No residential or commercial trash or recycling collection service will take place on these days.
Residential Customers: If the closure dates fall on your regular collection day, please place your roll carts at the curb for collection on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Commercial Customers: If your business is normally scheduled for collection on the closure dates, dumpsters will be serviced on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Regular hours will resume on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025, and Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.
Reminder: Jan. 2, 2026, will be the first Household Hazardous Waste collection day of the new year.
Update:
Atomic City Transit – Regularly scheduled bus service will not operate on Thursday—Christmas Day and or Thursday—New Year’s Day and ACT MyRide services will not be available. Regular service will resume on Friday, Dec. 26, except for Peak Service on routes 1 and 6, which will resume on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026.
Utilities will be closed for regular business; however, crews are on-call for emergencies 24/7 by calling 505.662.8222.
