SANTA FE – Anglers in New Mexico are very fortunate to have such diverse fishing opportunities, especially when it comes to trout.

With six different trout species, all within a few hours of each other, catching several, or all of them, can be quite the challenge.

The Department of Game and Fish launched Wednesday the New Mexico Trout Challenge (NMTC). This challenge, which is the first of its kind for New Mexico, will encourage anglers in the state to catch five of New Mexico’s trout species.

SANTA FE – Monastery Lake, near Pecos, has been closed to fishing until further notice due to unsafe ice conditions.

Ice fishing is not allowed at the Benedictine Monastery lake leased through the Department’s Open Gate program. A thin layer of ice has formed on the lake prompting the closure.

The lake will reopen when there is sufficient open areas of water available to allow fishing from the bank.

The FBI is requesting assistance from the public to help locate Jose Arturo Navarrete, Jr., who is wanted for federal unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
 
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that results in the arrest of Navarrete.
 
Navarrete was last seen in Texas and may be in New Mexico, Arizona, Texas or Mexico.
 
Navarrete, who was born in Midland, Texas, is described as a 24-year-old Hispanic male with hazel eyes and black hair. He weighs 172 pounds and stands 5’11” tall.

EAGLE NEST – Eagle Nest Lake State Park is now open to ice fishing.

According to the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resource Department’s State Parks Division and the Department of Game and Fish, current measurements indicate that ice thickness exceeds the minimum standards. DPU To Undergo Billing Software Upgrade Jan. 2-3

An upgrade to the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities’ billing software is scheduled for noon on Thursday, Jan. 2 through close of business on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020. 

As a result, customer care representatives’ ability to view customer account activity or process account changes will be limited until the upgrade has been completed. 

Los Alamos County is upgrading its enterprise resource planning software, Tyler MUNIS, to a newer version and during this time many county systems will be down, including DPU’s billing software.
