Following Reports Of Delays, Luján Requests New Mexico Secretary Of State Extend Absentee Ballot Deadline

NAMBÉ – After hearing reports that Santa Fe County residents have faced significant problems in the absentee voting process ahead of the June 2 Primary Election, U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján is asking New Mexico’s Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver to extend the deadline for absentee ballots to be counted.

Specifically, Luján applauded Toulouse Oliver for her work in implementing a vote by mail system to deal with COVID-19 and is requesting that all statewide ballots be counted if they are postmarked by June 2, rather than only if they are received by June 2.  Read More

Registration Opens For Los Alamos ScienceFest 20×20 Art Challenge With Theme ‘20/20: Eyes On The Future’

Registration is now open for the Los Alamos ScienceFest 20×20 Art Challenge.

The Los Alamos Creative District, Fuller Lodge Art Center, and the Los Alamos Arts Council are sponsoring this art competition designed to inspire and share creativity in the Los Alamos downtown area during this year’s ScienceFest, which will primarily be held virtually July 7–12.

The art challenge also will serve as a fundraiser for the Los Alamos Arts Council.

The challenge is limited to the first 20 artists to register, costs $20 per entry, and spots are expected to fill quickly. Read More

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 107 additional positive tests for COVID-19.

Los Alamos County remains at 6 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.

Today’s update includes 5 additional deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

The New Mexico Department of Health reported today the most recent cases:

  • 15 new cases in Bernalillo County
  • 2 new cases in Chaves County
  • 1 new case in Cibola County
  • 3 new cases in Curry County
  • 4 new cases in Doña Ana County

State Of New Mexico Announces Soft Reopening For Outdoor Or Patio Services At Dine-In Restaurants

Restaurants may provide outdoor or patio services where available beginning Wednesday
SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced this afternoon that the state’s emergency public health order will be amended to permit limited outdoor dine-in services for most of the state beginning Wednesday, May 27.

DOJ: Laguna Pueblo Man Charged With Assault With Intent To Commit Murder And Kidnapping In Indian Country

Department Of Justice News:

ALBUQUERQUE – Duane A. Day, 30, of New Laguna appeared in federal court in Albuquerque May 20 for arraignment on an indictment charging him with assault with intent to commit murder and kidnapping in Indian Country.

A grand jury indicted Day for the offenses May 12. According to the indictment, Day committed the crimes March 24 at a residence in New Laguna, Cibola County, New Mexico. Day allegedly strangled the victim twice, causing her to lose consciousness the second time.
