Heinrich, Luján, Leger Fernández Introduce Bipartisan Legislation To Strengthen RECA

New Mexico Delegation News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) introduced bipartisan legislation designed to strengthen the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) to compensate individuals exposed to radiation while working in uranium mines or living downwind from atomic weapons tests.

The legislation was led by U.S. Senators Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Luján in the U.S. Senate, and U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.) introduced similar legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.

New Mexico COVID-19 Sept. 24 Update: 714 New Cases, Totaling 248,788 With 14 New Deaths And 218,310 Recovered

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials announced 714 new COVID-19 cases today in New Mexico.

Los Alamos County reports 2 new cases today bring the total to 648 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

This update includes 14 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:

  • 199 new cases in Bernalillo County
  • 2 new cases in Catron County
  • 45 new cases in Chaves County
  • 10 new cases in Cibola

County Reminder: Water And Sewer Rates Increase Oct. 1

COUNTY News:

Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities remind residential and commercial customers that water rates will increase by 4 percent and sewer rates by 2 percent Oct. 1, 2021.

Residential customers in a single-family home that use 6,000 gallons a month, for example, can expect to see their water bill go from $45.70 to $47.52 and their sewer bill go from $55.95 to $57.07.

Commercial customers with a 3-inch meter that use 20,000 gallons a month can expect to see their water bill go from $218.04 to $226.64 and their sewer bill $424.71 to $433.15.

WILLIAM E. PUTMAN JR. Aug. 7, 1931 -– Sept. 20, 2021

William E. Putman Jr., age 90, loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, following a five-year battle with cancer, Monday, Sept. 20, 2021.

He was born Aug. 7, 1931, in Albion, Nebraska, the oldest of three children, to William E. Sr. and Marianne Putman.

As a child he loved to learn, hike the bluffs around Scottsbluff, play with his dog Tippy, go to church, make friends, and earn badges in the Boy Scouts. He became so dedicated to the Boy Scouts that he went on to become an Eagle Scout. Read More

I think it is wonderful what the LANL Director did by mandating COVID vaccines for all employees. (link)

You need 5 vaccines to go to kindergarten.

This will protect his workforce. I only hope our school board and our county council will follow his lead.

My 6-year-old grandson is in grave danger, and we cannot yet protect him. This is a community problem and can only be solved by community response.
