Update: Cajete Fire On Jemez Ranger District

SFNF News:

Location: Jemez Ranger District on the Santa Fe National Forest, on both sides of N.M. 4 along the southern boundary of the Valles Caldera National Preserve. 

The Cajete Fire appears to have started approximately one mile northeast of Vallecitos de los Indios. The fire area runs along the East Fork of the Jemez River and is to the west of the burn scars from the 2011 Las Conchas Fire and the 2013 Thompson Ridge Fire.

Lisa Brenner And Son File Suit Against County

Los Alamos resident Lisa Brenner and her son, Patrick Brenner, filed a complaint for declaratory judgment ordering production of copies of emails sent or received May 15 by Los Alamos County Councilors. The suit is against Los Alamos County Council and its Designated Custodian of Public Records Barb Ricci.

WASHINGTON D.C. — U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, welcomed passage of a bill he cosponsored to expand the AMBER Alert warning system in Indian Country.
 
The AMBER alert in Indian Country Act comes in response to the tragic abduction and murder of 11-year-old Ashlynne Mike on the Navajo Nation in 2016 – when authorities did not issue an AMBER Alert until a day after Ashlynne’s abduction was reported.

Police Charge David Byron Lawrence With Assault And Property Damage Following Alleged Drunken Rampage

David Byron Lawrence, 54, was charged with assault against a household member and criminal damage to property of a household member when he was arrested June 6.

Los Alamos Police Department Cpl. Robert Larsen was notified of a domestic dispute in progress and when he arrived at Lawrence’s residence, two women told him Lawrence was drunk and “got crazy”. Damian Herrera Arrested On Five Counts Of Murder

ESPANOLA — At approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department dispatch received a 911 call regarding a shooting that occurred at SR 111 Private Drive 1695, House # 1 in La Madera, Rio Arriba County.

Based on statements and through investigation, it was learned that the suspect, Damian Herrera, had shot and killed his mother, stepfather and brother in what appears to be a domestic dispute.

Herrera’s mother has been identified as Maria Rosita Gallegos, 49. His stepfather is identified as Max Trujillo Sr., 55, and his brother

Fire Near Los Pinos Spurs Evacuations

FIRE News:

The smokey conditions in Los Alamos today are caused by the Cajete Fire, currently burning in the Los Pinos area of the Jemez Mountains. The fire is near Mile Marker 33 on NM 4. The Forest Service and Sandoval County Emergency Management are currently fighting the fire.

According the U.S. Forest Service, smoke was first reported to Santa Fe Dispatch at 10:47 a.m. today. An stimated at 100 acres and spreading and moving to the east. The cause of this fire is unknown at this time.  Read More

Local Smoky Haze Caused By Fire In Bonita Canyon

Smoky haze from a lightning-sparked fire 19 miles north of El Rito in Bonita Canyon fills the sky this morning looking east from the Main Hill Road. The wildfire reported June 3, increased in size to approximately 280 acres, driven by wind and dry air. It is burning in a remote area of the El Rito Ranger District of the Carson National Forest.
