A woman appeared to be unharmed after crashing into this metal fence Thursday morning between New Mexico Bank & Trust and Subway sandwich shop at 1370 Central Ave. She told officers at the scene that her gas pedal got stuck on carpet and she couldn’t stop. Update: Public Urged To Avoid Area Of Cajete Fire

Fire officials are urging the public to avoid the area of the Cajete Fire underway in the Jemez Ranger District on the Santa Fe National Forest, on both sides of N.M. 4 along the southern boundary of the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

The Cajete Fire appears to have started approximately one mile northeast of Vallecitos de los Indios. The fire area runs along the East Fork of the Jemez River and is to the west of the burn scars from the 2011 Las Conchas Fire and the 2013 Thompson Ridge Fire.

SANTA FE — Gov. Susana Martinez directed the activation of the New Mexico Emergency Operations Center to assist in the coordinated response to the El Cajete Fire in Sandoval County.

Cajete Fire: Los Alamos County Responds To Request From Sandoval County For Help With Displaced Animals

Los Alamos County’s Animal Shelter staff are responding to a request received overnight from the Sandoval County emergency response team to assist Animal Amigos with evacuation of animals being impacted by the Cajete Fire burning in the Jemez Mountains.
