U.S. Sen. Udall, Heinrich Urge Senate Leadership To Include Higher Education Relief In Upcoming Coronavirus Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Tom Udall (D-N.M) and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M) joined a group of 31 senators in urging Senate leadership to include $47 billion in financial support for students and institutions of higher learning in the upcoming coronavirus relief package.

In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), the senators called for additional funding to ensure that students are able to complete their degrees despite the impact of COVID-19.

State Permits Breweries ‘Soft’ Reopening; Allowing Broader Reopening Monday

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced this afternoon that the state’s emergency public health order will be amended to permit a limited reopening for breweries this weekend followed by a broader reopening Monday, June 15.

Under the amended order, effective Friday, June 12, breweries may offer outdoor and patio seating at 50 percent of maximum occupancy as determined by the fire code.

The following stipulations apply:

  • No service may be provided in indoor seating areas;
  • Outdoor service may be provided only to patrons who are seated;
  • Tables must be placed at least 6 feet

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 121 additional positive tests for COVID-19.

Los Alamos County remains at 6 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.

Today’s update includes 10 additional deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

Y Hosting ‘Virtual’ 4th Of July 5K Family Fun Run

The Family YMCA has held an annual 4th of July Family Fun Run, called the “Firecracker 5K” since 1999, and this year’s will be the 21st event, but in a modified format.

LA Cares Volunteers Prepare Food Bags For Local Residents

Volunteer June Gladney places items into boxes Wednesday afternoon in preparation for distribution this morning to Los Alamos residents. The food items are distributed the second Friday of the month and the Thursday before. Pickup times are 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday. The food bags and boxes are picked up in a drive by fashion in the parking lot of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church on North Road.
