Director Cameron Crowe takes us into the native community and gives grudging respect to the continuing fight for sovereignty over the land. But the film doesn’t really get into that viewpoint. Instead, the culture, Read More

Review by KELLY DOLEJSI
Los Alamos

If a young, charming British man could time travel within his own life, what would he change?

Find out at 6:30 p.m. Thursday when Mesa Public Library screens “About Time” (2013, rated R) in the upstairs meeting room theater.

When Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) finds out from his father (Bill Nighy) that all the men in his family can travel back in time, he does what any respectable 21-year-old heterosexual male would do; uses his new power to trick women.

Now, “trick” misrepresents somewhat what Tim Read More

Cinema Cindy Reviews ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’

By CYNTHIA BIDDLECOMB
Los Alamos

“Mad Max: Fury Road” is not the sort of movie I yearn to see.

OK, that’s an understatement. I really did not intend to see this movie AT ALL. But then The Santa Fe New Mexican gave it four chilies (and they are very snooty about which films they like). I could let that go, but then The Week, in its Review of Reviews (May 29 issue) gave it four stars. What’s going on here? OK, we have to see it now, before it gets an Oscar nomination or something.
