The New Mexico Search and Rescue Council Announces Annual Search and Rescue Conference.

The New Mexico Search and Rescue Council (NMSARC) will be hosting ESCAPE (Emergency Services Annual Preparedness Event), its annual training event for search and rescue volunteers on May 4-6 at the Buffalo Thunder Resort, Spa, and Casino in Pojoaque, NM.  Over 200 volunteers from throughout New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas, will be attending to train in all aspects of effective search and rescue.  The three-day conference also has a trade show, featuring the latest in search and rescue Read More

Summer Video Editing Classes at PAC 8

This summer, PAC 8 is offering 20 sessions of video education classes. Classes will be for students in grades 2- 6 and additional classes will be held for middle school students. The classes are lots of fun – students make music videos, news shows, documentaries, commercials and comedies. This year we’re also offering animation classes.

There are four levels to choose from:

Beginning Classes – basic camera techniques, audio, editing with I Movie, interviewing, studio production.

Intermediate Classes – digital cameras, editing with Final Cut Pro, blue screen, special effects.

Washington D.C. – Underscoring the Obama Administration’s investments in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and ensuring educational opportunities are available to students across the nation, U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced that Lexington High School from Lexington, Mass., and Hopkins Junior High School from Fremont, Calif. won the 2012 U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Science Bowl today at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

A team of students from Los Alamos High School is competing this week in the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl (NSB) in Washington, D.C. and has advanced to the “sweet sixteen” from an original field of 69 high school teams from across the country.

DOE Launches National Science Bowl Lithium-Ion Battery-Powered Model Car Race

Middle School Regional Champions From Around the Country to Compete
 
Beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 44 middle school teams from across the nation will race against one another in the Lithium-Ion Battery-Powered Model Car Challenge as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl Competition.
 
The middle school teams designed and built their model cars from everyday household materials and brought them to D.C. to compete.

Nineteen teachers and staff will be honored for their years of service to Los Alamos Public Schools at a retirement ceremony next month.

The 2011-2012 LAPS retirees goodbye party is set for 4-6 p.m., Thursday May 10 at Fuller Lodge.
