Community Invited to UNM-LA / Los Alamos Daily Post College Board Forum 7 p.m. Wednesday

UNM-Los Alamos and the Los Alamos Daily Post will co-host a “UNM-LA Advisory Board Candidates Forum” from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 30 in Building 2, Room 230 on the college campus.
The public is invited to attend the forum, which will feature Position 1 incumbent Ron Dolin and challenger Michelle Hall in the only contested position among the three seats coming up in this year’s race.

Over the last two weeks, I have been following an interesting conversation in the Los Alamos Daily Post about the timing of the school bond election.
At least one writer wondered aloud why the bond election was not tied to the general election last November.
Another wondered why the district chose to run an all-mail ballot that costs taxpayers up to $30,000 – money that might have been saved had the School Board chosen to run it as part of the general election last November.

Pinon School ‘Tagged’ by Vandals

On Saturday evening, Jan. 25, Pinon Elementary School was “tagged” by vandals. The graffiti consisted of a number of vulgar and inappropriate words and phrases.
As a community, we should not put up with this senseless disregard and marring of our public property. As such, I asked Kevin Honnell, Los Alamos School Board President, to convene a special Board meeting at Pinon Elementary at 5 p.m., Jan. 30 to discuss the district’s response to vandalism.

Jazz Night came back to the Blue Window Bistro Saturday night when a full house enjoyed the Tom Rheam Trio from Santa Fe.
The Blue Window is a great place to hear jazz. The lights are low, the space is intimate and the conversations are muted during the music.

Calling Creative Young Artists for Dog Jog Logo Contest
DOG JOG News:
Tails are wagging all over Los Alamos in anticipation of the 2013 Los Alamos Dog Jog, to be held on the morning of Saturday, April 27.
The Dog Jog is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Shelter, who provide medical services and needed items for animals housed at the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter.
The Dog Jog Committee is calling on all creative young artists to put your imaginations and love of dogs to work by submitting a drawing for the 2013 Dog Jog Logo Contest!
The Logo Contest is open to youngsters in grades 3 through 6 whose families live or work in Los Alamos County.

The Family YMCA offers a several dance classes for a variety of ages and skill levels.
Community members are welcome to stop by and “try-out” any class once at no charge.

Some Reflections on Conflicts There are functions of conflicts that aren’t necessarily destructive. This notion really jarred me when I was reading for my PhD courses.
And I am still not sure that I am terribly fond of this notion. I accept that differences can serve us beneficially: diversity of thinking, logic, styles, and ideas.
