‘Run the Caldera’ Celebrates ‘The Year of the Coyote’

VALLES CALDERA News:
Coyotes are a species unique to the North American continent and range from New England to Alaska and as far south as the Panama Canal.
One found its way into New York City’s Central Park. Another once sauntered into a Chicago fast food eatery during the lunch hour. The Aztecs dubbed the prairie predator “coyoti,” which science later Latinized with the more formal classification of Canis latrans.

School Board Holding Three Meetings on 2013/2014 Budget

The Los Alamos School Board has scheduled three Special School Board Meetings to discuss the 2013/2014 budget on the following dates:
- Wednesday, May 1, at at 3:30 p.m. in the LAHS Speech Theater;
- Wednesday, May 8, at 3:30 p.m. in the LAHS Speech Theater; and
- Monday, May 15, at 3:30 p.m. in the LAHS IMC.

Los Alamos Ranking Rises on ‘US News & World Report’ Best High Schools List

US News & World Report has selected Los Alamos High School for a “Silver Medal” ranking in 2013 as one of America’s Best High Schools.
From a review of 21,035 U.S. public high schools, Los Alamos ranked 556 in the nation. Los Alamos ranking was up significantly from the 2012 “Silver Medal” ranking of 638.
Rankings of high schools are largely determined by participation in Advanced Placement courses. This past year, 49 percent of the 1,124 of the students at Los Alamos High School enrolled in AP courses. Read More

Los Alamos Pony Club is hosting a New Mexico Dressage Association recognized dressage show at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at the North Mesa dressage arena behind the rodeo arena within the white fencing.
In the event of inclement weather, the show will be moved to the covered arena.
Several local youth and adult competitors, as well as other riders from around New Mexico will be in attendance.
