When his brother, Gilbert Gonzales, was diagnosed with brain cancer, Art Gonzales was devastated.
“I want to help in any way I can,” he said, adding that his classic 1967 Olds 442 provided a way to assist with medical expenses. He is raffleing it off to raise funds to help pay his brother’s medical bills.
Art did all the mechanical work on the car and his cousin, Antonio Gonzales Jr., painted it and now it’s a “like new” classic.
The car will be on display at the Smiths Gas Station, 1239 Trinity Dr. and Art will be on hand to sell raffle tickets beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, May 3.
Gilbert Gonzales has been married to his wife Kathy for 35 years and has two sons and several grandchildren. He was forced to retire from New Mexico Tech due to his illness.
Art is asking the community to help his family help Gilbert by purchasing raffle tickets for the 1967 Olds 422. The price is $3 per ticket or $2 each when purchasing 40 or more tickets.
