When the Los Alamos Daily Post stopped near the gas station at Trinity and Knecht Saturday to snap a few shots of progress at the Smith’s Marketplace construction site, a man drove up in a white truck to ask if we knew it was private property. About 400 people from northern New Mexico attended a preparedness fair Saturday hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Twenty four booths with activities, demonstrations and information were set up at the White Rock chapel on Grand Canyon Drive. Topics included food and water storage, 72-hour kits, outdoor cooking, finance, ham radio, bread making, how to obtain scholarships, the county’s emergency broadcast system, as well as the emergency communication system for members of the church in northern New Mexico.

LANL Announces Scholarship Winners
LANL FOUNDATION News:
Thirteen Northern New Mexicans have received $1,000 Returning Student/Regional College scholarships from the Los Alamos National Laboratory Employees’ Scholarship Fund.
The awards help students returning to a formal education for certification or a two-year degree at an accredited regional college. Many are pursuing new careers.
Funding comes from donations by LANL employees and a matching amount from Los Alamos National Security, LLC., and the scholarships are administered by the LANL Foundation.
