LDS News:

About 400 people from northern New Mexico attended a preparedness fair Saturday hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Twenty four booths with activities, demonstrations and information were set up at the White Rock chapel on Grand Canyon Drive. Topics included food and water storage, 72-hour kits, outdoor cooking, finance, ham radio, bread making, how to obtain scholarships, the county’s emergency broadcast system, as well as the emergency communication system for members of the church in northern New Mexico.

LDS church leaders have always encouraged self-reliance. Saturday’s preparedness fair, titled “Oil in your Lamp,” was a way for church members and the community to exchange information and share ideas for times of emergency or disaster.
