DOUGLAS WARD LIER April 25, 1931 – March 26, 2016

Capt. USNR-Retired Douglas Ward Lier, longtime Los Alamos resident, athlete and community volunteer died March 26th, 2016, from renal cancer.  He was nearly 85 years old.

Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin April 25, 1931, he spent his summers waterskiing and winters ski jumping.  Doug graduated with a Physics degree from St. Olaf in Northfield, Minnesota.  Serving as Naval Nuclear Weapons Officer during the Korean War, after spending time at Sandia Naval Weapons Facility, he received an assignment in 1953 to Los Alamos where he met Read More

Tiny tiger Linnea Stange and mom Sy Stange were at the Jewish Center Wednesday for a party prior to the annual Purim Service. Purim is one of the most joyous and fun holidays on the Jewish calendar. It commemorates a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination. The Purim story is told in the Book of Esther, which is read during the Purim Service. Esther, the Jewish queen married to the king of Persia saves her people from extermination at the hand of the scheming counselor Hamin. It is customary to hold carnival-like celebrations on Purim. Governor On 36-Year Low In DWI Highway Deaths

ALBUQUERQUE  Gov. Susana Martinez has announced that New Mexico saw a 36-year low in the number of DWI deaths that occurred on New Mexico roadways last year.
 
In 2015, there were 122 DWI deaths – a 28 percent decrease from 2014. This marks a 70 percent decrease since 1979, the year New Mexico started tracking DWI fatalities.
 
“DWI has been a major problem in our state for a long time. I’m encouraged by this progress. A 36-year low in DWI deaths is a big deal. But our greatest challenge remains: ending drunk driving for good and getting that number to zero,”

FBI Seeks Suspect In Officer-Involved Shooting

The FBI and the Laguna Police Department (LPD) are searching for a suspect related to an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m., Thursday in the area of the Route 66 Casino on the Pueblo of Laguna.
 
An LPD officer investigating a vehicle that was reported stolen was shot but is expected to recover. A male suspect was shot and killed.

‘Blue Bus’ La Cienega Pilot Route Launches March 28

NCRTD News:
 
The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD), operator of the RTD “Blue Bus,” will kick-off its six-month pilot service Monday from the La Cienega Valley to south Santa Fe.
 
The new service will offer three roundtrips per day, Monday through Friday, with one early morning, midday and late afternoon. Service will be from La Cienega and La Cieneguilla with stops at Las Golondrinas, 599 Rail Runner Station, Santa Fe Place Mall, Walmart, the Santa Fe Outlet Mall, VA Clinic on Bruckner Rd. and New Mexico Human Services.
