Bandelier Picnic Area Paving Begins Early April
BANDELIER News:
Visitors driving into Frijoles Canyon in Bandelier National Monument should expect brief road closures or delays during the week of April 4-8 while the park re-paves parking areas near the Visitor Center.
During the week there will be days when flaggers will be coordinating visitor traffic and the large trucks carrying hot mix for paving, followed by days when the traffic will also include heavy equipment paving a short piece of new road connecting to the entrance road. Construction delays are never fun, but when it’s all over, visitors will again have use Read More

WIPP Ends Safety Pause
WIPP News:
A safety pause, declared by Nuclear Waste Partnership in response to air quality issues in two remote areas of the WIPP underground, was ended and normal work in these areas has resumed.
The pause began Feb. 22 after workers detected elevated levels of carbon monoxide and volatile organic compounds (VOC) in two areas at extreme ends of the underground. The pause allowed time to thoroughly investigate each event while work in un-impacted portions of the WIPP underground continued.

Letter To The Editor: Open Letter To The Council
By Vice Chair Susan O’LearyFellow Councilors:
I’ve given the many large dollar value lawsuits settled by the County’s insurer a lot of thought. I have a few observations and suggestions to share with you in the spirit of seeing the Council move forward in a productive manner.
There is no doubt in my mind that each of us serve on the council because we care about our community and want it to be the best it can be. I respect each of you for your commitment to public service. Each of us will have different ideas about how issues need to be addressed and each of us deserves to have our Read More
Shelter Hosts ‘Name Donation Dog’ Contest
Lizzie is wondering who the new dog is in the lobby at the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter. This is the new donation dog and he (or she) waits patiently for visitors to drop in a little something to help the animals in the shelter. There is only one problem … it needs a name. That’s where the community comes in. Send the shelter a name using Facebook IM or drop off names at the shelter at 226 E Road. The shelter will select a name for the donation dog April 15 and invite everyone to a naming ceremony at the shelter. Courtesy photoClinton Said She Will Open Area 51 Files To Public

Smart Design With Suzette: Designing A Simple Life – The Art Of Less
Courtesy photo
Smart Design With SuzetteIt’s been a rough month. Our community has lost some very good people. It’s times like these, I reflect on life’s big questions. Am I making a difference in my community, to my family? What more can I do to educate others that their choices make a difference and effect our world in either a positive or negative way?
I have realized that the sustainable lifestyles concepts about which I often write are relative. I want to expand my definition of simple, sustainable living to include sensitivity, Read More
