God tells the prophet, Isaiah, that the Hebrew people “seem” to be eager to know God’s ways. He tells Isaiah that they act like a nation that is doing what is right. They ask God to make just decisions for them, and they “seem” to “be eager for God to come close to them” (Isaiah 58:1-2).

Pat Soran was recently chosen by unanimous vote of the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Advisory Board to fill a position on the board vacated when Michael DiRosa resigned to accept a change of station to the Pentagon.

The Los Alamos Faith & Science Forum is holding a series on the topic “What Makes Us Human?”. The next session is May 19.

The group meets at Kelly Hall at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church. Applications are being accepted until May 27 to fill one position on the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).

The Los Alamos Nukes and Los Alamos Bombshells under-19 rugby teams are slated to play in at the Rio Grande Celtic Festival in Albuquerque May 21-22.
 
The Nukes won the New Mexico State High School Inaugural 10s Championship May 7 when they beat the San Juan Spartans. Boys coaches are Demetrio Cardiel and Mateo Cardiel, while girls coaches are Dan Sheppard and Kelcey Tietjen.

Prescribed Burn Planned On Española Ranger District

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest hope to take advantage of current conditions to conduct the previously announced Mesitas prescribed burn on the Española Ranger District this week. 
 
The 1,700-acre treatment area is located approximately six miles southwest of Abiquiu, 15 miles north of Los Alamos and 15 miles northwest of Española. Once ignitions have started, they are expected to last two to five days.

New Mexico Secretary of Education Hanna Skandera stopped by the Los Alamos Daily Post newspaper office Friday following her visit to Aspen Elementary School. She spoke about the importance of reading for students and is encouraging students to participate in the New Mexico True Summer Reading Challenge to keep students engaged during the break and allow them to compete. Cat Rescued From Tree At Caballo Peak Apartments

Animal Control Officer Alysha Lenderman and Los Alamos County Utilities Department employees Julian and Michael rescue a cat from a tall pine tree at Caballo Peak Apartments. The cat had reportedly been in the tree for four days, but the rescue took less than five minutes once the bucket truck arrived.
