Cheryl Pongratz, right, wins the Derby hat contest at Saturday’s annual Kiwanis Kentucky Derby fundraiser at Cottonwood on the Greens. Pongratz named her hat Run Away From The Roses. Sharon Stover comes in second with her hat, which she named Sheila after her sister who loved sunflowers. The event grossed $4,585. The proceeds benefit Project Eliminate, a partnership between Kiwanis and UNICEF to combat maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) across the globe. Since 1999, UNICEF and its partners have immunized nearly 100 million women and have eliminated the disease in 38 countries. To reach the goal of eradicating MNT, there are 21 more countries in need of our help and together, Kiwanis and UNICEF can stop this disease. Photo by Carol A. Clark/ladailypost,com
